OK, I know this cover art is awful! It's the beginning of what I call the "naked" books. I can't believe that Barbara Cartland was happy seeing this with her concerns for modesty and virginity, but sex sells! Unfortunately, this doesn't measure up to Francis Marshall's exquisite covers and almost demands a cover up of its own!
OMG! I've never seen a cover of her's with nudity like this! Wow.
ReplyDeleteYeah. I always wonder if she was overruled on these few covers by a marketing team or the publishing company. Luckily, they changed back but never to the quality of the Francis Marshall covers.
ReplyDeleteI am rediscovering Barbara Cartland and found your blog. Thank you for all the work you put into it and all the info about the Francis Marshall covers. If you didn't know already, Secrets is #36 in the Eternal Collection. I'm not sure the wash of color they threw in around the couple is an improvement, but at least they covered up the heroine Sandra!
