I think this is a pretty cover by Forlag, but I find all of his heroes look exactly alike! The heroine is pretty and we see them about to enjoy the sunshine and perhaps a bottle of wine?!

I like this seafaring cover in which both our hero and heroine look very happy! We see them both casually dressed and enjoying the sea and the fine weather, along with just being together.

This is an interesting cover which shows our couple getting married in a Anglican service, but in a decidedly foreign setting! Our couple are simply dressed and very happy. We also see the vicar holding his prayer book and a flower strewn room.

In this cover by Forlag, we see our couple exchanging a kiss in a sunny window setting. The flowers and colors seem very 1970's and don't fit the regency dress of our couple and setting of the book.

This is a pretty cover by Forlag of our couple. The hero seems to be reassuring the heroine. We notice some pretty flowers which echo the pink in her gown. A deep blue curtain gives a pretty cast to the white linens on the bed. It's an unusually relaxed scene for one of Cartland's covers.

On a lark, they visit the Moulin Rouge and she meets a handsome comte who thinks she is a chere amie! It seems a bit of harmless fun until her comte turns into the Duc!

On this cover by Fiord Forlag, we see the hero throwing a man out of a window! Our heroine is dressed in an elaborate evening dress with diamond jewelry. Our hero is dressed appropriately and we wonder if they are about to go out or have been so. I think the heroine's dress is very elegant and very early Edwardian in style.

The Duke of Dallwyn is being forced into a marriage by a past lover who doesn't want her husband's daughter from a previous marriage around! Safina has her choice of the Duke or an asylum, so they marry and try to figure out some schemes to make some money until Safina inherits at 25!

This is a pretty cover by Forlag which shows our couple walking through the hero's house. We get the impression that it's old and very big, but elegant, as the window and chandelier show. Our heroine is lovely in a blue bustle gown with darker blue bows while our hero imitates her by wearing a darker hue.

Tila's brother has let their home to an American millionaire who wishes to enter the London season and find a bride. It's an answer to Tila'a prayer, as they are very poor. Forlag's cover shows our couple at the moment where they realize that they love each other! Our heroine wears a loose yellow robe that goes well with her golden hair while the hero is casually dressed in a blue shirt and dark trousers. The room in which they stand has some comfortable chairs and may be a library.

The Duke of Moorminster is planning on composing a Christmas pageant for the Prince and Princess of Wales but needed a new angel to perform in it. The vicar's daughter, Lavela, has a beautiful voice and is willing but a jealous mistress has an evil plan to thwart his performance!

On this special cover, we see our hero dressed as Father Christmas and our heroine, in an elegant white/silver gown, leading a parade of children during the performance. A hint of an ornate private theater along with decoration is seen but the focus is our couple.

We see our heroine being helped after a fall by the hero in this cover by Forlag. He tenderly holds her while she is still in a faint and we read his regard for her in his expression. Another great romance by Barbara Cartland.

This cover by Forlag shows our couple, elegantly dressed, in a bedroom. We don't know if they are married in reality or still playing a part. The artwork seems indistinct and not up to the standards of the late Francis Marshall and his earlier, exquisite covers for Barbara Cartland. I get the feeling it was completed in a hurry.

On this cover by Forlag, we see the Emerald Buddha, that the Marquis has acquired, being given back to the Lama from Tibet. Our couple seem mesmerized by the Buddha and judging by their attire, were wakened to see this! I think that the artist leans close to a "magna" look with the features of our couple, less defined and almost cartoon. What do you think?

The hero is dressed as a sheikh and our heroine is in a pretty light blue robe. The hero is being talked to by another man as the heroine walks by. We see by her glimpse that she recognizes the hero!

I really like this cover. On it, we see our couple standing in a library of a home in an embrace. I love the heroine's pink and blue gown, which has a bit of a theatrical look to it. She is a perfect foil for the hero, dressed in gray. It's a happy cover and we know that if we read this book, we are guaranteed a happy ending by Barbara Cartland!

The loud shawl she has thrown on her shoulders almost looks like a blanket from the back of a couch! She and the hero seem to be urgently conversing. I think the colors used here are almost jarring against each other, which brings me back to the odd shawl!!

We see our couple on the yacht streaming through the countryside. I like the castle in the background and the fact that our hero is dressed as if to sail, but our heroine is in her wedding gown, since he's just rescued her! The cover is intriguing enough to say "pick me up and read me"!

I like this cover of our couple and especially like seeing another brunette heroine! She looks gorgeous in her blue bustle gown and trusts the hero to help her as they escape the building. It seems a quiet picture for a country in revolution and the climbing pink flowers growing nearby give the street a homey touch.

This cover shows our heroine being carried by the hero, as if she has fainted. She wears a modish Victorian styled gown of green, richly decorated, which flatters her red hair. The room they stand in may be the Marquis's chateau, but looks like a museum! It's too bad we don't see the necklace of the title, but I guess that would be too greedy!

So he jumps onto his yacht and travels to Cornwall to meet Zia, who is being coerced because of her fortune! The next thing to do is to marry her off, but the Marquis becomes concerned because his ward is rich and because, just maybe, he wants her for his own!

We see on the cover the rescue of our heroine, who is still wearing her nuns robe as they climb onto the yacht that carries them off to safety. They seem to finally look at each other and this looks like a happy moment. I like the setting of the wharf and the ship in the background.

Our cover shows the first meeting of our couple and their magical kiss! I think it's interesting that this cover has a horse and dog on it, both animals that Barbara Cartland liked. It's a bright summer day and our hero is dashing and cheeky!

Real Love or Fake

I like the early Victorian gown worn by our heroine. The artist did a great job with the details of her dress and hairdo. Our hero still looks more Regency, but with the flashier cravat and waistcoat. They embrace in an bright and elegant room.

The Bargain Bride

Marcus Winton, viewing his disastrous gambling at Whites, decides to help him by marrying his sister and paying off his debts. Aleda isn't too happy with this solution and is concerned that he has married her to advance his social position. However, when she is kidnapped in London by some Chinese men, she discovers her husband's secrets!

Our cover artist shows the rescue of Aleda in the story. Our heroine is safe and the hero is relieved. The Chinese man and his servants seem more interesting that the couple and I'm intrigued with the room where this is all set. Not something you'd easily find in 1800's London! The cover is almost too busy.

The Temple of Love

The Duke of Inglebury is on a mission to find a legendary temple deep in the Javanese jungle. While there, he finds Sarida, who is living nearby with her father, an author of religious books. Sarida is also intent on keeping the temple safe from the Dutch looters.

I think this is a very intriguing cover. We see our heroine in the garb of the Javanese culture, standing in front of the secret temple. Our hero is dressed in clothes designed for exploration. It looks like their initial meeting and the surprise of finding another English citizen in this exotic country!

A Circus for Love

An unknown artist created this cover of our couple and my major issue with it is that the heroine looks out of proportion on her horse. Maybe it is her ballerina styled dress! The horses are drawn to perfection and the background is enchanting. It's another fun read by Barbara Cartland.

Love is a Maze

While there, she discovers a plot against the Duke of Norminster!

This is a pretty cover of our heroine in costume as the Queen of the Fairies. Our hero, dressed as a Georgian elegant, is enamored with her! I like the fact that she actually looks like an enchanted beauty!

This is a nice cover picture of our couple and the hero's little daughter. We see them looking at the ships that harvest the pearls and maybe they are at the dock to purchase some! Our heroine is pretty in pink with a large sunshade while the child is dressed in miniature! The hero is in clothing suitable for the heat. You can almost smell the sea air!

Our couple stand in the bright sunlight of India after taking a ride. The yellow cover emphasizes the heat and light. Our heroine is lovely in a ribbon and ruffled dress of the 1880's. The servant in the background is almost redundant.

The Passionate Princess

We see our couple meeting in the cover of this book. Our heroine has left her horse and is looking at the picture that the artist hero is creating. Her green riding habit blends into the woods and water. It's a peaceful and bright cover.

This is an interesting cover of our couple. They look as if they're in a foreign place, even though we see the Union Jack flying! Our heroine sits primly in a carriage while the hero gazes at her. Her dress has a Victorian look while the hero is mainly in Regency garb.

I like this cover because we have a rarity: a brunette heroine! It's so rare to see them on Barbara Cartland's covers! Our couple are at a reception with the emperor Napoleon. The drawing room is very ornately decorated and the guests are dressed finely. It's an interesting cover and would make me want to read the story.

The Perfume of the Gods

This is a simple, but beautiful cover done by an unknown artist. We see our couple standing near their camp by an oasis. The sun and sand look hot, but they are in the shade of a tree. I like their expressions as they gaze upon one another and the heroine's beautiful robes.

I'm assuming that the lady on the floor is the evil stepmother, since only the butler is helping her! The heroine's yellow bustle dress dominates this cover with its color and ornateness.

I'm glad that Barbara Cartland kept most of her stories in the 1800-1900 time frame. She knew her history and the glimpses of fashion and society from then is very interesting.

Our couple are in an Oriental setting which is dangerous and mysterious. We don't know if the Buddhist monk in the background is friendly or not.

I also like the fact that we see our couple with nature around them, as evidenced by the fact that they are framed by the trees and sky.

This is one of my favorite covers by the unknown artist because it shows a scene in the story where our couple escape Paris in the only way available: a balloon! I like the contrast of their fur coats and the muted balloon colors. This book has special meaning to me because I have a daughter named Miranda!

Crowned with Love

This is an interesting cover of our couple after the rightful king has taken the throne. We see the happy crowds and the flower decked carriage as the triumphant procession progresses through the city.

I've always liked Cartland's stories of kings and queens. Here she takes a real fact, that Queen Victoria did place her relatives on the thrones of Europe, and creates a great love story from it!

This is a pretty cover of our couple. It's interesting that the people are vivid and the background is soft and almost fuzzy in appearance. The light and colors mimic the heroine's nightgown.

I'm always amazed at how many stories Barbara Cartland set in the regency time period. That is where I got my love of all things regency!!

We see a cover with an interesting view of our couple defending themselves and the heroine already wounded! I think it's unique because we see no antagonist!

This is one of the prettier covers in the Camfield series. I like the lake setting and the elegance of our heroine's dress. There is some interesting color coordination with the hero's cravat and the trim on her dress along with the flowers behind them! Very elegant!

Alone and Afraid is #21 in the Camfield series and was published in May 1985 for Barbara Cartland. This story is about Kitrina, who is brought to the attention of her distant relative, the Marquis of Elkesley, by a friend in Paris. Kitrina, born in Africa, is being pursued by a desert Sheikh and hopes that her kinsman can take her back to England before the unthinkable happens!

This is a unique cover since I think it's the only time Cartland uses a coffin as an escape route from a dangerous villain! We see our couple on a safe train and an attendant looking on in bewilderment! I like the expression of the heroine as she gazes into the hero's eyes!

The Peril and the Prince

The Peril and the Prince is #20 in the Camfield series by Jove. This book was published in April 1985. Vida Anstruther's father, a diplomat, has disappeared in Hungary and she decides to go find out what has happened after official channels prove unsuccessful. Her disguise as a young widow works well on Prince Ivan, who she wonders is a friend or foe!!

This is an interesting cover of our couple. Our heroine leans against the hero as they travel on a train and her peasant costume is a disguise as to her real identity. Our princely hero is handsome and gentle. If you like Barbara Cartland's stories set in Russia and filled with secret police and spies, you will like this one!

A Very Unusual Wife

A Very Unusual Wife is #19 in the Camfield series and was published in March 1985. The Marquis of Falcon has been asked to become Master of the Horse to Queen Victoria, but there is a stipulation: he must be married! So he proposes to marry one of his neighbor, the Earl of Warnborough, daughters. The two eldest are betrothed, but the youngest, Lady Elmina, decides to marry him for his horses and lovely house, since she hasn't met him yet!!

This is a better cover than we've seen lately! I like that our hero has saved our heroine from some thieves and I like the dark setting of this picture. Our heroine is unusually pretty with her very light blonde hair and it's clear that she adores the hero.

Miracle for a Madonna

Miracle for a Madonna is #18 in the Camfield series by Jove for Barbara Cartland. Lord Mere travels to Italy to retrieve a necklace owned by his sister that was stolen by a faithless lover. Once there, he becomes involved in a dangerous plot concerning that lover and a beautiful princess named Florencia.

Even though I would classify this as one of the "immodest" covers, it has a beauty to it that some of the others lack. Our hero seems to be reassuring the heroine, who is very beautiful, if somewhat indecently attired! I think a backdrop of Italy would have made a pretty cover since few Cartland books were set in Italy.

Love is Heaven

Love is Heaven is #17 in the Camfield series by Jove publishers and was published in January 1985. Delysia's sister, Fleur, was in love with young Lord Sheldon and all London knew it. However, Lord Sheldon already had a fiancee and a ruthless uncle, Magnus Fane, who is determined to keep his nephew from starting a scandal. Delysia and Magnus end up in a confrontation which ends up in love!

Remember the earlier "naked" covers? We continue for the next few books a series of awful, awful cover art. I don't know who was organizing this, but I can't help but think that Barbara Cartland didn't like these at all! When you compare these to the earlier Francis Marshall covers, it makes you want to cry in frustration. While the stories are good, the art is awful. I'm glad that they didn't continue with this trend. Even the floral picture covers later in this series are much better.

Theresa and a Tiger

Theresa and a Tiger is #16 in the Camfield series and was published in December 1984. Theresa has run away from her guardian to France. She is the chef to the Marquis de Sare and living in his chateau, where he rarely visits. It's the perfect hiding place until the Marquis arrives!

This is an interesting cover with our heroine sitting next to a tiger as if he was a kitten! We see our hero (maybe another tiger) standing in the background!! I like our heroine's white gown and hairdo, though I don't think her dress would be cut so low for day time wear.

The Island of Love

The Island of Love is #15 in the Camfield series by Jove and was published in November 1984. Lydia's younger sister, Heloise, is beautiful and calculating. She becomes engaged to the catch of the season, the Earl of Royston. He is commanded by the Queen to travel to Hawaii to celebrate King Kalakaua's coronation as her ambassador. Traveling there, he becomes friendly with Lydia and soon begins to realize that he's asked the wrong sister!

This is another in the "almost naked heroine" covers, though it is part of the story when our travelers become shipwrecked! I like the setting of the Hawaiian beach, with the palm trees and native flowers. This is the only book that I know of set partially in Hawaii!

Revenge of the Heart

Revenge of the Heart is #14 in the Camfield series and was published in October 1984. Warren Wood is walking along the Seine when he sees a fellow Englishwoman who looks as if she's about to jump into the river. He finds out that Nadia has just lost her mother and he comes up with a plan to help her and himself, as he is pursued by a beauty who only wants a title.

This is a pretty cover of our hero rescuing the heroine in Paris. We see a lovely riverwalk and the lights twinkling above the river. Our heroine looks startled as the hero approaches her.

White Lilac

White Lilac is #13 in the Camfield series and was published in September 1984. While fogged in, the Duke of Marazion is resting at an unknown inn when he is interrupted by Ilitta, a lovely artist, who seeks shelter from another man. He takes her to London, where she was bound on the stagecoach, because she is a talented caricaturist and he hopes to help her get a job.

This is an interesting cover, because, while our heroine is a artist, she isn't creating full length portraits as the cover implicates. A cartoonist or caricaturist would probably use pen and ink for their drawings. I do like her blue gown which should have an apron over to not get stained! Oh well!!

Moonight on the Sphinx

Moonlight on the Sphinx is #12 in the Camfield series and was published in August 1984. Octavia Burke is alone in Alexandria and agrees to help Kane Gordon, who is being pursued for his knowledge of a secret tomb containing a fortune. They sail up the Nile into a plot that may have Crown implications!

This book has an interesting destination cover, being set in Egypt. We see the pyramids and our couple in the moonlight enjoying an embrace! It makes you wonder if they are sightseeing or trying to find the treasure at the tomb!

The Storms of Love

July 1984 is the publication date of Barbara Cartland's The Storms of Love and was published by Jove for its Camfield series! The Duke of Wydeminster travels to see the Goodwood Races and plans to stay with the Marchioness of Berkhampton since a lady he is interested in will also be there. On the way, he is stopped by Lady Aldora, the Marchioness's daughter, who tells him of a devious plot!

This is one of the prettier covers in this series with our heroine and hero embracing in a wooded area. They are dressed for the races and we see a curricle in the background that was their transportation. The background is fuzzy, but I like the details of the heroine's hairdo and dress.

Secrets

Secrets is #10 in the Jove/Camfield series and was published in June 1984. Sandra flees her home to become the companion of the Countess of Kyle. She finds romance there but it is threatened by another suitor and a Russian Princess!

OK, I know this cover art is awful! It's the beginning of what I call the "naked" books. I can't believe that Barbara Cartland was happy seeing this with her concerns for modesty and virginity, but sex sells! Unfortunately, this doesn't measure up to Francis Marshall's exquisite covers and almost demands a cover up of its own!

A Witch's Spell

The Marquis is on the way to visit Hermia's cousin's family and her cousin, Marilyn, is determined to marry him with Hermia's help!

The cover art, done by an unknown artist, shows the meeting scene of our hero and heroine. I like the rendition, other than the fact that the heroine looks like she's 13! We see the hero's horse and a grand house in the background where he may be heading!
